The best specific energy consumption values mentioned are based on the following assumptions (as mentioned in World Best Practice Energy Intensity Values for Selected Industrial Sectors):

• 1.389 t sinter is required to produce 1 t hot rolled steel;

• 0.9923 t pig iron required to produce 1t hot rolled steel(90% pig iron and 10% scrap );

• 1.05 t crude steel to make 1 t hot rolled steel.
